2025-26 Propagation Season Update

If you’ve been watching this space, there hasn’t been a lot visible here; that’s because we’ve been hard at propagation!

This year we are doing things a little different on two fronts:

  1. We normally work at a number of smaller sites with a number of smaller plantings. This year, we’re putting most of our efforts into providing plants and planting for the new revegetation and regeneration project at Sandy Beach Reserve in Bassendean. Our target is to propagate and plant approximately 4000 seedlings; which is about our yearly goal most previous years. We still hope to give some attention to other sites as well.

  2. We are replacing our Excel-based planning system with a new custom planning website. There are a lot of technical details here and things are still in the early stages, but we’re having some good success with it so far!

We started our main propagation on-time in October, and have been steadily growing since then.

Here’s a little screenshot from our records:

On January the 15th, we did our first main inventory since propagation began for this season.

Here’s the results:

So far, good progress!

The rest of the time between now and planting will be “filling in the gaps”. We go through our plan and our inventory, and figure out what work we need to do in order to make our totals. It can be a little bit tedious sometimes, involving lots of going backwards and forwards between different numbers; this is why we created this new planning software: to help give us the right information, where and when we need it.

A reminder that we do regular Wednesday morning propagation activities at our Ascot nursery. If you want to come along and see how we work, click on the “Get Involved” link above, and fill out the form, or email contact@bpginc.info and we’ll keep you up to date about our weekly activities.

We are an entirely Volunteer-run group, so volunteers are our lifeblood. Any and all help is deeply appreciated.

Hope to see you there.
Shae.
