ASHFIELD FLATS ACTION! Most have transplanted well and I expect a 75-80% success rate. Most have new growth
and show signs of successful transplanting. Could you please include this in the
agenda items to be included Some extra notes from Steve John found a spot on the northeast end
of Ashfield Flats where Flooded Gums hang over the perimeter track.
The track is kept clear of weeds by foot traffic and occasional council worker vehicles I suppose, and the seedlings take advantage. They were as thick as grass at that one spot. We've seen the same thing in area D which was sprayed prior to planting last year. With the competition from weeds temporarily gone, about twenty volunteer Flooded Gums shot up out of the ground this winter. That's a technique we need to take a look at, knocking the weeds back around existing stands of native trees
and watch the self sown seedlings take off. |

The picture below is a fire rainbow, one of the rarest all naturally occurring
atmospheric phenomena. The picture was captured on the Idaho / Washington border and last about an hour. Clouds have to be cirrus, at least 20,000 ft high with just the right amount of ice crystals and the sun has to hit the clouds at precisely 58 degrees. |

| Wildflower Association of WA - program of events including .... Saturday 18th July For application/registration forms, |
||
| Simple explanation: Don Yates has retired as a member, including a position on the executive committee, of the Bassendean Preservation Group inc because of perceived possible conflicts of interest between the narrow-minded interpretation of the Local Govt Act by some and what Don would like to achieve for the environment in Bassendean. Being a volunteer and planting trees is still OK I think?! |

A good number of dieback resistant jarrahs were planted at the Broadway Arboretum and work was also done at the nearby Fairford St drain today, Sunday June 28. This was followed by the welcomed tradition of a sausage sizzle smothered in onions and a hot coffee or tea. (Thanks Maggie) Thanks also to Steve, Mick, Claire, Val, Lyn, Ron, Don, Jane and Shirley ... apologies to anyone I missed out! We will need more volunteers for the next planting in 2 weeks at Ashfield Flats! |
