Hames Shaley Streetscape Plan - 30 months plus in formation
Alfresco area in Old Perth Road to be paved - subject to 2008/9 budget

The Bassendean Council are considering a number of issues related to the plan
including alfesco eating and street trading. While alfresco area in front of The Old Trout
and Hedgehogs in Old Perth Road will now to be paved, there are other considerations
that are still being workshopped with the Town's Administration. A number of questions
from Councillors remain to be answered. Click here for some of the questions.
(The original report is available as a PDF)

A serious concern is the still-to-be-officially-released listing of approved tree species
for the master plan. See BPG Member's Daneille Witham's initial comments on the
79 nominated species for Bassendean's Streetscape plan.

Success Hill Reserve - Storm water Management Plan -

The Town of Bassendean received another presentation from Syrinx Environmental
on the proposed undersized subsurface wetland to process the storm water before it flows
into the Swan River. (Standing Committee Meeting of the Bassendean Council 7.30pm
48 Old Perth Rd, Tuesday June 17 2008).

There are so many issues, from the current path to be converted to a series of steps
with no wheel chair access to the new floating jetty, the problem of using recycled concrete
rubble as the 'cleaning mechanism' and the potential for flooding of nearby streets because
the facility is only half the design size due to budget constraints.

There is also now a report from Prof Ravi Narduof the University of South Australia
that raises similar questions about the unsuitability of a 'RURAL' system in an 'URBAN'
environment which is also suggested by the USEPA, United States Environmental
Protection Agency.

The Town of Bassendean voted 6:3 to continue to spend funds with Syrinx
for design work and proceed with the steps to the proposed floating jetty.

Swan River Trust - lots of things happening!

Oxygen injection at the Guildford Rd Bridge
Riverparks and rivers could be under one administration, not 22 Councils

On many issues, from heritage issues to recreational and commercial access to the river
and the adjoining parks, (including Success Hill, Point Reserve, Pickering Park,
Sandy Beach Reserve and Ashfield Flats), the move is towards one body control.
See Map 10 and Map 14 for detail of the gazetted riverpark areas in this region.
