Competition feedback

Hi Don, The photo competition should have been called "Don's dodgy photo comp"!
How come the close up had green grass in the background and the answer had blue sky
in the background? I think they were two different photos. Regards, Claire

I can take criticism as I drown out the screams
with this excellent Lamont .....

Thanks for (information), continue to send through.
I may not always had the opportunity to respond but appreciate being kept informed.

Success Hill Reserve
subsurface wetland is
a serious issue.

As of October 2008, the Town of Bassendean has spent some $116,000 and the
original intention to fix the fishing platform and the access steps remain closed.
It is almost 2 years since it was closed.

The project 'grew' to a $2.3 million program, including a subsurface wetland to manage
the storm water. (See the following for problems with this approach).
The Council has withdrawn the program and future options are being considered.

The following spreadsheet page is based on the figures of Syrinx on Tuesday evening,
June 17 2008, as presented at the Standing Committee Meeting. It demonstrates that there
is a potential for flooding in the vicinity of the entry to the Success Hill Reserve planned
subsurface wetland.

The unsuitability of subsurface wetlands for urban installations has been indicated by
Prof Ravi Naidu of the CRC Care (University of SA) and the USA Environmental Protection Agency. The main problem is the unsuitability to deal with high inrush stormwater
in an urban setting without the flooding potential.

1.  How can the ToB Councillors and certain staff keep promoting a plan that has major
basic planning shortcomings?

2.  The Syrinx design experience quoted was for a rural greywater system.  When will we have a 'bright light globe event' with the realisation that Success Hill Reserve is an URBAN installation, not a RURAL system?

3.  The budget is greater than $2.3 million for the whole facility. The Town has to get it right with so many ratepayer dollars in play! The land is also under the management of the Swan River Trust, (Brian Reed, Town Designer, June 17 2008).
